PPD stands for Personal and Professional Development. However, this doesn't necessarily encapsulate the breadth of what this component of your course means or what is has the potential to be. This component focuses on and is an intrinsic part of you who are as a designer, both inside and outside college, while you are a student and once you are practicing. |
||
In the broadest sense, you can think of this as a space that lets you think, reflect and bring together other areas of your course. This is a space that helps you make connections between all areas of your practice: both in the studio, in the theoretical component and beyond. This is also a space where you will have the opportunity to see and meet a broad range of speakers (designers, artists, writers, activists). Finally, this is a space that encourages you to think of yourself as a designer who is also a member of your community.
As Bruce Mau put it: "we are not only interested in the world of design, but rather designing the world."
PPD is an integrated element of the undergraduate courses at LCC. It is a compulsory 10 credit module of the GMD course and a 20 credit module of the FdA course. More information about the specific nature of PPD at different levels and on the different courses can be found here. |
