freelancing

As a graphic design student you may very likely find yourself in the position of being offered freelance design work by people you know. You may already be running your own design business, or thinking about setting up in partnership with someone else. It’s important that you know the basics of running your own business before you start – and it can be confusing when you begin. For example, do you know what an invoice is? Are you registered for tax? How much should you charge for your work?

Luckily, LCC is home to a service that will answer all these questions and more. The Enterprise Centre for the Creative Arts (ECCA) offers free creative business services and facilities for all UAL students. These include:

  • One-to-one advice sessions on setting up and/or running your own business
  • Email advice from financial, legal and funding experts
  • Funding help & advice for practicing freelancers & small businesses
  • A contact database of over 400 useful creative organisations
  • An up-to-date events diary of all events of interest to creative businesses
  • Invitations to creative industry special events
  • Networking and collaborative venture opportunities

The service is available to students and graduates of the University of the Arts London who have either set up their own business in the last 3 years, or are thinking about starting one.

You can book yourself an appointment to see a creative business advisor at LCC online (you need to register on the site first, but it’s a quick and painless process).
